2017 Caribou Trout Opener

This year's Opener took place Saturday, April 29th, 2017. The opener is always the last Saturday in April. It was a gorgeous day, but the water was very high and very fast.

We had 58 anglers signed up this year - 48 adults and 10 kids under 12. Fishing was tough and we didn't have many fish turned in - but our winners brought in some nice fish!

In the Kids 12 and Under division, Oroville's Quade Lobo, age 12, walked away with everything as he was the only one to turn in a fish! Quade's buddy, Rylan Giovanonni, age 11, also of Oroville, almost had a fish to challenge him, but lost it just before bringing it to shore - dang! Well, that's fishing. It should be noted that Quade has won the Kids division three times! Watch out guys, he's fishing in the Adult division next year...

Our Adults worked really hard and were exhausted when they came in. First place honors went to Norman Molinari from Greenville. Norman brought in a

24 1/2" beautiful brown trout. Nice job!

Our 2nd place winner was Rich Huntsinger from Sacramento - and he, too, is no stranger to the winners circle in our Big Fish Contest. He brought in a 19" rainbow. 3rd place went to Pat Fitzsimmons from Davis, showing up with a 18" fish. Good job all!

Trout Season just started so you have plenty of time to enjoy and get your fish on! Grab your license, a rod and come on up! Season runs the last Saturday in April through November 15th.

And make plans now to participate in next years Big Fish Contest! It is open to all anglers with a valid fishing license. Entry fee is $5.00 and we pay 100% payback to the top 3 anglers in adult and kids divisions.

The opener is a great family event. We offer a pancake breakfast, starting at 6am, the day of the event. We offer food specials in our cafe all day- our shakes are always a delicious choice!  We hope you will make plans to join us -

you could be the next big angler!

Iron Chef 2017

Our Iron Chef competition is an annual cooking contest, with chefs using the main ingredient chosen for the year. Our contest is held in early October; as of yet, the official date and ingredient has not yet been chosen.

In the past, main ingredients have included: cheese, rice, bacon, beef, chicken - just to name a few. The main ingredient for last year was beans and we had a wide array of dishes - from dips and side dishes to main dishes. All were quite tasty but the 2016 Iron Chef award when to David Shotts for his Super Bowl Bean Dip. Congratulations Dave and we hope to see you back this year; repeat?

Keep checking the website for an official date and ingredient. 2017 will mark our 12th annual Iron Chef - we hope you will be a part of it!

Come join

the fun...!
